Last night the 6th and final episode came on Hbo Max last and alot of it caught me off guard. Now if you have heard of this case that happened in the city of Baltimore a few years ago then you know the outcome of this grim story. Real life polic going rouge,, stealing, robbing and extorting the residents of the city. Men with badges that were no better then the crooks they were sworn to go after. Even the innocent were not safe from these group of officers. Now I am not going into full details of the story because it’s a lot to take in and honestly it’s a rabbit hole that I have seen too many times and read about.
Wayne Jenkins.
The man that lead a operation that got him 25 years. There is no secret that Jon Bernthal has become one of the most exciting actors from his roles on “Walking Dead” “The wolf of wall street” and of course “The Punisher” but this role of him playing disgraced Sgt Wayne Jenkins of the Gun Trace Task Force was more up my alley. The wire is my all time favorite show and with the show creators coming back for this mini 6 part series, I knew I was going to watch it. Jon Bernthal did a amazing job, even based off a scumbag person, he nails the role. He’s energetic, intense, and overall just evil in this role.
Overall grade, i give this show a solid A. If you are not use or didnt hear about this case, i suggest you watch this show. 6 1 hour episodes that reveals the truth about what was really going on in the city of Baltimore.
Growing up in the Bay Area, I was and still am Golden State Warriors fan. So my hate for the Lakers is very real. Alot of respect for the players, organization and history but will always hate them. So of course when the organization kept winning my Warrior’s were just scraping by and making it to the playoffs. But that’s all in the past and HBO max has done a great job in my opinion bringing up the Lakers past winning history in a very funny, sometimes deep kind of way. When I first seen the trailer and seeing one of my favorite actors John C Riley was portraying the late great Dr. Jerry Buss in a very John C. Riley way. It caught my interest. Then I kept seeing more. From the camera they used to put you back in 1979. The settings, seeing the old Forum that I use to go to whenever we traveled to Los Angeles area and see the Lakers stomp out my warrior in the regular season in the early 90s.
The Premise:
Dynasty
It’s the off-season for the Lakers and new regime is coming to take over. Dr Jerry Buss has landed on a gold mind. Has a chance for the number 1 overall pick, building a new light at the end of the tunnel for him and his family but there is one problem. Dr Jerry Buss is over his head when it comes to being a rookie owner of a historic franchise. The great Jerry West, the logo himself is stressed to the max and and causing stress in the front office. Also Jerry Buss is broke but he lands maybe one of the greatest if not the greatest point Guard to ever play
You know who he is.
Quincy Isaiah starring as Magic Johnson was incredible to watch. When I use to play basketball as a teen I use to play pg and my dad who hated magic and the Lakers made me watch old Magic Johnson highlights to help me become a better passer but obviously i didn’t pay much attention but to see this guy play Magic is pretty spot on. They way he talks, the way he runs the down the floor in scenes. Seeing him become the 6’9 floor general is amazing to see and I hope this actor gets some love in the Oscar season because I feel he did that great of a job as Magic.
My Favorite of the show
“The Logo”
Okay now I know there is a lot of controversy with the portrayal of Jerry West but too see Jerry so explosive, pissed off and losing his s**t almost everytime he is on screen really made me love this show. Now I have great respect of for Jerry West. Never seen him play but his mind for the game and building teams up is amazing to see and read about but to see how the pressures of the game and managing the team was pretty intense to see and hilarious most times but I can see that amount of pressure getting the best of somebody and it made for the show to get kind of dark sometimes. With that being said Jason Clarke did a amazing job as well. Also like to thank Jerry West for axing the possible trade of Klay Thompson for Kevin Love.
Overall Grade
Larry Legend
I give this Show a A+ I just love this show, and I hate the Lakers but the history is to great to not tune in. The acting was well done, the show was so fun, funny at times but had some serious dark times as well. It is a very well balanced show and if you are a sports fan or love the Lakers then I believe you will enjoy this show. Now once again there is alot of controversy moments that makes ask yourself “Did that really happen?” And to answer the question you have to ask a actual Laker. So let me know what you think about the show, tell me you story about your love or hate with the Lakers. Or if you want to talk ish about basketball just reply in the comment section. In the mean time thank you again for taking the time read this review and I will see you next time. Until next time be safe and enjoy life. ✌️
Its no secret that the moon knight show on Disney Plus has gain much popularity and the character is gaining his much needed popularity that was overlooked for many years but now the his time has come and in my opinon has given the Mcu a much needed and somewhat recharge. Now i havve had my issues with the Mcu over the past couple of years and to be honest i skipped a few of their movies. But when it was announced that Moon Knight was getting a series from Disney plus. I was a little worried that it would fall under the classic mcu formula. Never the less the kid inside me reminded me that this character is near dear to my heart but also this character is on my top 5 marvel superhero list next likes of “Ironman” Black Panther”, “Silver Surfer” and “Daredevil”. So I ignored my issues with the Mcu and dove in with excitement.
The story
Steven Grant with a “V”
Poor Steven Grant a innocent museum worker with great knowledge of ancient egyptain history has found himself dealing with some issues from Blacking out. Waking up in very different environments with blood on his hands and crazed soul sucking cult leader following him. So whats a man with that many issues do? You listen to your voice but in this situation you find out that your voice maybe the real version of you. Enter Marc Spector and what Marc Spector brings to the table is the “Fist of Konshou” The Moon Knight. And it’s up to Moon Knight to save the world from evil while he battles with himself and his identity and his past.
Author Harrow
Ethan Hawke does a great job playing the soul sucking villain in this series. He is very chilling as a cult leader. I have always been a fan of his work ever since “Dead Poets Society”. So when it was announced that he was playing the villain of the series I was sold. His presence in the show makes him feel like a villain from Mortal Kombat. Maybe it’s the way he sucks souls out of the innocent people in the show. But overall his performance was amazing.
Oscar Issac
Now for Oscar Issacs performance in the show. He really nailed it with this one. Playing a tortured soul who has to fight for a god who could care less about him while dealing with his inner battles with himself while going on sucide missions was incredible to watch. When he switches from Oscar Grant to Marc Spector was really fun to watch. From going from a nervous British museum worker to a bad ass mercenary who doesn’t hesitate kill was just too cool to pass up on.
Moon knight and Mr Knight
The coolest part for me was seeing the nice suits. Moon Knight in my opinion has always the best design when it comes to marvel character’s but when Mr Knight was first introduced I fell in love with that design and story. When you see them in combat in the show, I think you will fall in love with it as well.
Overall Grade
I give the show a B+. I would have given it a A but only 6 episodes is too short for me but overall I had a lot of fun. A great adventure superhero show that goes on a kind of Willy Wonka ride. But I think this is a great addition to the MCU. Now there is rumors going on that there may not be a season 2 and if that’s case then that is a great disappointment in my book. But overall it is what it is.
So to all my fellow Moon Knight fans. Tell me what you think about the show. Share your likes, dislikes and just tell me your experiences with the character Moon Knight and tell me what you think. But in the mean time thank you for taking the time to read this review. Until next time be safe and have a great mother’s day weekend and tell your mother how much you love her and appreciate her. Until next time, stay in peace my friends.
And of course like the hardcore horror fan that I am, when this movie was first announced I ignored the complaints that I had about the direction but since the last movie came out so many years ago. I got excited and after seeing the first trailer, i was in. And last friday me and the wife got a babysitter for our daughter and had a classic date night. Dinner and a movie and like the fool that I am, not paying attention i ended buying movie tickets for the wrong movie but all was fixed and we ended watching the movie and this did not dissapoint me. I ended up enjoying this alot more then i thought i would. This movie was fun, gory, and a slashing good time. (Yeah i wrote that). What I most enjoyed about was this movie really opened up the franchise with their legacy characters which really caught my interest.
The great returns
It just wouldnt be a scream movie without the orginal surving three amigos “Sidney Prescott” “Gale Weathers” and “Dewey Riley”. The three come together for maybe a last fight with ghostface. New characters or i mean new vicitms of find out they are being hunted after a brutal attack of one of their friends and the bodies pile up around the good ole small town of Woodsboro. Like Michael Myers to Halloween and Freddy Krueger to Elm Street, woodsboro will never be safe city to live due to hardcore horror fans just taking it a step too far with their fandom and i feel this movie re captures that aspect perfectly.
Ghostface
Of course it wouldnt be a scream movie without the main person “Ghostface”. With the classic hunting knife and the black robe costume and mask. The iconic look is still menacing and scary when you see the killer on the screen and of course the voice, that voice that made everybody get a caller id back in the 90s is still the same with more edge. It was great to hear that voice again. It was just great to see ghostface again. Now of course like every movie comes out i have a couple of nitpicks about the movie but those nitpicks do not ruin this movie for me. Also this movie pays a great deal of respect to the orignal in more ways then i can count. It also may open the doors for more sequels.
Whats the future?
Of course the internet is buzzing about a possible sequel and if i had my way, i say make a couple of more. There is a whole new audience out there who may really enjoys this franchise like I do. I mean everybody deserves a good scream every now and then and i like to think Wes Craven himself would have enjoyed this new movie so i dont see any reason why the franchise cant continue. As long as you keep it scary and fresh this franchise will have a strong following like its had for more then 20 years now. Now is this movie as good as the first one? In my opnion, no but its still great in its own right so for me i hope they continue and for the overall grade i am going to give this movie a solid B+ but let me know what you think in the comment section. What worked for you or what didnt work for you. But in the mean time thanks for taking the time to read this review and i will see you guys and gals again. In the mean time be safe.
I can remember growing up as a 80s baby and back then my parents did not care, horror movies were always on and even with “Freddy Krueger” scaring the living ish out of me but I kept going back to watch it. Loved watching the Halloween Movies, “Friday the 13th” movies, “Pumpkinhead”, “Child’s Play”, “Hellraiser”. You name it we were watching at a very early age. (No I do not let my 3 year old watch horror movies and never will). My love for horror movies goes deep and I still watch them to this day. My wife not so much and that makes it alot funner to watch them with her. But “Candyman” was the one that made me scared again. Around the early 90s when Freddy was losing his fear, Jason was ready for retirement for a period of time and chucky…well chucky you can just punt him across the room and be done with him. But Candyman had me shook. I remember my dad took us to the theaters in Oakland to watch Candyman at 7 years old and by the 3rd act of the movie we were out lol.
BE HIS VICTIM
The plot: Helen Lyle played by (Virgina Madsen) is a college student in chicago who is working on a research paper on Urban Legends and comes across the story the of Candyman. Murders happening in the Cabini Green Projects. Helen is not a believer so she drags her friend to the projects to get some information. And she hears the stories and you think that would be enough to say “okay, i got enough info” but nooooo she comes back and well lets just say she probably keep her ass home at this point but “she doesnt scare easy” until candyman actually shows up in a parking garage and then all hell breaks loose for Helen Lyle. And Candyman doesnt mind bringing the hell to her.
The history: the character Candyman is based off the short story created by the great horror writer Clive Barker called “The Forbidden”. The orginal story was set in Liverpool England but director Bernard Rose wanted the movie to be set in Chicago, Illinois.
Tony Todd’s performance
The man himself
Tony Todd is a horror icon and this is the role that put him on the map. I loved his performance of “Night of the Living Dead” but this role put him up there with the titans of horror. His alone should be in the horror Hall of Fame. But his presence when you first see him makes you think “oh s**t”. The way he used the bloody hook in the movie was devastating. The way he grunted when he caught a victim was so chilling. His performance was amazing and scary at the same time. He was even good in the two other sequels even though the sequels were not very good.
There will be blood…and lots of it
Now if you like blood and guts well you will not be dissapointed but be very cautious there is some disturbing stuff that happens in this movie and parents who love this movie and has kids please do not let them watch this because this movie will freak them out and you will have to deal with consequences (I know my dad did). And believe it or not some of this movie is based on grim stories that actually happened in the Cabrini Greeb Projects but you can read up on that. Overall its a very good, very scary movie that did its job when the other horror icons were not cutting it around the early 90s. This movie goes down in the top five horror movies of all time. Overall grade I give it a A+. And yes I am very excited to watch the new Sequel that comes out in friday. I guess its time to get scared again and if you plan on seeing the new one well I hope you have a good time.
